For my third and last night in Doha I decided to try the new DoubleTree Hotel Doha. I booked it later than earlier. The required Honors points went down by almost 10,000. I’ll let you know ow much it cost in total.
Check-in at Doubletree Doha
Although check-in went well, I did not get my #SweetWelcome. Yes, the front desk agent did not offer me a DoubleTree welcome cookie. Disappointed? Yes indeed.
Here’s the thing about expectation. DoubleTree advertising its Sweet Welcome all over social media. The cookie promise is what differentiate the DoubleTree brand inside the Hilton portfolio. It was the first time this has happened to me.
The Doubletree Doha room
The room is brand new and clean. A typical Hilton room. Well designed, it has everything you need for your comfort and some little extras. The room is super clean and neat. I like to see that the floor is clean especially the carpet part.
Generous breakfast buffet
The dining room and breakfast buffet were what you’d expect from a Hilton standard point of view. The dining room is beautiful and modern. The buffet featured Western, Arabic and Indian warm and cold foods.
Since I didn’t have Gold status and this was a reward stay, I had to pay for breakfast. I paid close to $50! It’s a lot of money for breakfast. There’s so much you can eat. Next time I’ll make sure I stick to my Gold status.
Business center
The hotel features a spacious Business center. I loved the way the sitting lounge and the work stations were spread out across the large room. You could sit in one end of the room, read the paper or browse one your phone and print your docs from a work station on the other end.
How much I paid
My stay at the DoubleTree Hotel Doha cost 25,000 Honors points. I consider that in the high end of what I would pay. Actually, the cost was at 33,000 points. I waited the next day to see if it’d drop. It did drop and I booked it.
I got rewarded for staying at a Hilton property. If you look at the screenshot below, you’ll notice that I gained 2,347 Honors points. Yes I was rewarded for making a free stay! Here’s why. Hilton considers a paid or reward stay as a regular stay. Which means that in the context of a bonus promotion on a stay, you’ll accrue the associated bonus points. In this case, the Hilton Honors Points Unlimited promotion credited me with the standard 2,000 bonus points. The remainder points are status-related base & bonus-calculated points.
Verdict
The DoubleTree Hotel Doha is very well located in Doha’s old town. It’s just a 10-minute walk from Souq Waqif, the Corniche and the Museum of Islamic. Art. The property is brand new and has everything you need for a short stay. If you are paying for your stay, book a rate which includes breakfast.
Breakfast is expensive, expect to pay $50 for the buffet. If you’re using your Honors points, then don’t pay more than 30,000 points. You can track points pricing on the Hilton Honors app which is the best in the business.
