As we plan our travels and journeys we always seek maximum value. In association with Discover Qatar, Qatar Airways Stopover program delivers just that. It allows travelers to add an additional holiday to their trip for a very small fee. So let’s see in details and in 3 steps how you can take advantage of this offering.
The program has resumed mid-summer 2021 as Qatar opened its borders to tourists. Don’t forget that you’ll need to show a RT-PCR negative test result to enter Qatar. Also, make sure you check if your country is in Qatar’s Green List Countries to avoid any quarantine.
I used the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite card to avoid foreign exchange fees when I took advantage of the program. The credit card also comes with 6 passes to Priority Pass airport lounges around the world. It does add a bit of comfort to the trip.
Step 1: Book your Qatar Airways flight
First of all you need to book your Qatar Airways trip. You can either book a return or a multi destination ticket as long as you have a minimum transit time of 12 hours in Doha.
Your Qatar Airways e-ticket number has to start with “157-“. You’ll need it to book your hotel. Don’t forget to add your British Airways Executive Club number to earn Avios and Tier points on all Qatar Airways flights. Indeed, Qatar Airways is part of the oneworld alliance.
Step 2: Get your free visa
Depending on your nationality you may apply to an entry visa. Most noteworthy, Canadians can benefit from a visa waiver on arrival. That means Canadians don’t need to apply for a visa beforehand. Hence, they’ll get one on arrival for free for up to 30 days.
This is great. You don’t have to worry about entering Qatar. This allows you to look into what to visit and do on your layover.
Step 3: Book your $32 hotel
Finally, through the Manage booking interface or your booking confirmation email, click on the Discover Qatar link.
The link will take you to the Discover Qatar Stopover web site. Choose your check-in and check-out dates accordingly. You can choose to stay at a 4 or 5 star hotel in Doha.
Rates for a 4-star hotel start at $32 for a one-night stay and up to $220 for a 4-night stay. Some of the hotels that are featured: Holiday Inn Doha Business Park, The Curve and Ezdan Hotel Suites.
Rates for a 5-star hotel start at $38 for a one-night stay and up to $280 for a 4-night stay. These hotels include: Al Najada Hotel by Tivoli, Grand Hyatt Doha, InterContinental Doha The City and Marriott Marquis City Center Doha.
I booked Al Najada Hotel Doha by Tivoli which I reviewed.
Conclusion
Qatar Airways and Discover Qatar Stopover program is probably the best stopover program in the world. The wide selection of hotels and various packages on art & culture, nature, dining & shopping are very enticing.

Quel étais ton itinéraire? Ton billet tu as utilisé des Avios ou des Asia Miles?
Non toujours un billet multi destination QR commençant 157 sinon ça marche pas
Hi,
Would it be possible to have only one e-ticket with the 157 prefix and the departure with a 125 (BA)? Rules aren’t clear.
Will
If your ticket is issued by Qatar Airways and the flight has a QR number I think it would work, even if it’s a BA aircraft. Try it and let me know if it works. Do you know where to go on Qatar Airways site to book hotel?
