Qatar Airways [Airbus 350] Economy, Zurich to Doha

Amin Benzaza

Qatar Airways links Zurich to Doha twice a day five days a week.  The Qatar Airways flight is a portion of my booked  interline airfare on Travelocity.ca. The first leg was a Swiss Economy Montreal-Zurich which I reviewed as well.

Check-in

I landed in Zurich at 6am. It was still very dark outside and many other Swiss intercontinental flights were coming in. Terminal E was cold and gradually waking-up. Dont forget that Zurich airport is forced to close and can only open at 6am. As soon as I located my Qatar Airways gate I went to the agent who had just settled in at the gate desk.

I told him I had to check-in and showed him my electronic interline ticket and passport. A few moments later, I got my boarding pass, he was very kind: he gave me a window seat with no neighbors. An hour and a half to kill before the flight.

Boarding

Boarding is still and will always be a mess. People create line-ups and expect to get through before others by some magic way. So I used the same trick I used in Montreal with Swiss. I waited far from the quagmire. As soon as the families, Elite status people made their way in, my seat section was called-upon and I headed straight to the gate passage. The people lining-up were not even close embarking anytime soon and were clogging the passage-way.

The food

Breakfast

The breakfast menu looked great. Three choices, two of which were protein-based. Unfortunately I was left with the third choice: the sugar bombe one. Don’t get me wrong the breakfast was tasty, but it was way too much sugar in the morning.

I fell asleep, so I missed lunch 🙁

Verdict

Qatar Airways‘ A350 Economy product is solid gold. I would fly Economy with the A350 Economy on a longer flight (10-12h). Reasonable legroom, great IFE set-up and quality food. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that we did not park at a gate in Doha (DOH). The aircraft stopped at an apron gate, far from the terminal. Which I don’t get. The airport’s huge and brand new, a lot of the gate were available. Why use so many apron gates like the old airport?

That was my overall experience with QR94 in Economy. Please share your own thoughts and experience with me Amin On Miles Facebook Page.
