Hilton Honors Sweet Spot
Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Hotel prices are out of this world. Even when you pay with points, the required amounts are huge. But Hilton Garden Inn Singapore came for the rescue
Location
It’s a 30-minute taxi ride from Singapore Changi Airport to the hotel. Expect to pay around $30-$40 depending on the time of the day. But one thing is for sure, although public transportation is great, you’ll arrive tired and jet lagged. So grab a taxi and relax.
The Hilton Garden Inn Singapore Serangoon address is 3 Belilios Rd in Little India. It’s nestled between a Hindu temple and a network of small commercial streets that host restaurants, jewelers, small shops and more. Also, it a 10-minute walk from the hotel to Little India MRT Station. The station is on the Blue line will take you to the downtown core in less than 20 minutes (Promenade & Bayfront MRT Stations)
Check-in
We got to hotel at around 9 a.m. It looked like a busy hotel, so we weren’t surprised our room wasn’t ready. Which was fine with us. Above all, the staff was very professional and swift.
We were offered breakfast coupons and left our baggage at the luggage storage. After a nice breakfast we went for a stroll in Little India. A little before 12 p.m. we were given our key cards and were thanked for our patience.
The Hilton Garden Inn Singapore King Deluxe Room
The room was my favorite place in the hotel. This may sound cheesy but the room had a lot going for it. Let’s not forget this is Singapore, square footage is rare and golden.
The design of the room was optimal (European hotels read and learn). Although not particularly big, the design was efficient which brought out a sense of spaciousness.
You can check the other Amenities & services at the hotel.
Staff of the Hilton Garden Inn Singapore
The staff was great every time I interacted with them. I want to acknowledge the Front desk people who have very busy shifts. I’ve witnessed the pace at which customers checked in and out non-stop. They maintained a very professional attitude even with the more difficult ones.
The staff at the restaurant were smiling, friendly and swift. The same could be said of the housekeeping ladies with whom I’ve interacted with. A very positive outcome indeed.
Breakfast
Hilton breakfasts are simply the best. Hilton Garden Inn Singapore is no exception. A huge selection of breakfast foods. You could choose from Western, Indian and Chinese cuisines. A chef was available to prepare fresh omelettes.
I’m a Hilton Honors Gold member. Breakfast for my son and myself was complimentary the entire length of the stay which saved us approximately C$80.
Swimming pool
The swimming pool is small but does the job. After a long day of walking and sightseeing, the pool was our daily relax spot for 1-2 hours.
How much I paid
This was entirely a reward stay. At the time, 3 nights at the property cost 60,000 Hilton Honors points and 0$ in fees or taxes of any kind. In Singapore terms, this is a deal of great value. The rate hovers at $150/night, to which you have to add a 10% Service Charge per stay and 7% in Taxes per night. Therefore adding-up to $537. It’s a good chunk of money I used on food & transportation.
However Hilton upped the required Honors points to 30,000 per night. Therefore you’ll need to fork 90,000 Hilton Honors for the same stay. Still beats the Conrad and Hilton properties at 60,000 per night, if you’re no into luxury.
Conclusion
Hilton delivers a great product with a consistent value to any stay. It is no exceptio for the Hilton Garden Inn Singapore. This is also true of my previous reward stays such the one at the Doubletree Doha. The Hilton Garden Inn is the best choice to see Singapore, particularly Little India as a starting point.
I really loved the Garden Inn Singapore Serangoon too.
One thing I had a different feeling about is the walking distance to the MRT station, I don’t know which direction you walked out of the hotel and I also see that walking with a child can sometimes take a bit longer. But on our stay we’ve never needed more than five minutes to the MRT station and we didn’t walk extra fast.
Also the taxi price you paid seems rather high. We paid 23SGD in the morning hours from Changi to the Hotel and it was raining, a fact that can raise prices in Singapore. From the Hotel to the airport we paid 21SGD, mid day, including the fee for calling a taxi to the hotel. So substantially less than you quoted.
All in all this is a wonderful review, really enjoyed reading. Brought back some nice memories for me!
Thanks Matthias!
